Kiddie Heaven

We've been in Westport for 4 days so far - most of them sunny, I'm pleased to report - and have been largely spending our time with the children. Jacob and Lauren are hilarious little things, so they've been keeping us entertained with their antics, and seem to enjoy having us around too. Lauren is particularly funny when she's telling Jacob off. It goes something like this (picture her bowled over and yelling as loudly as her lungs allow):
"JACOB. JAAAACOBBBB!!!! Listen to me right now! Go and brush your teeth now Uncle Jo said!Your being very naughty!"
I mean really. From a two year old. I love it.
Jacob is also quite amazing - he can recite movies like Bed knobs and Broomsticks word for word in his sleep, and dreams of one day either meeting, or even better, actually morphing into, his hero - Kevin McCallister, from Home Alone. We have conversations that mainly go like this:
"Aunty Ornella, one day when I'm bigger, i will go to New York City the Big Apple like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone 2!
"Really? How marvellous!"
"Yes. Will you and Uncle Jo be there too?"
"Errr, no, probably not."
"But why?"
"Because we've already been there you see."
"Oh. When did you go there?"
"Last year, after we visted you."
"Oh. But why?"
"....errrr...."
"Aunty Ornella, one day i will probably be friends with Kevin McCallister."
"Yes probably."
"Can you please call Batman for me on your phone?"
"....errrr...."
The joys of being 5.
The days here are long and thankfully lazy - I don't bother to get up before 10am, and we usually hang around the house in the morning, drinking cups of sweet tea and eating buttery toast for breakfast. Sometimes we'll take the kids to the playground, or go into town (Westport) to take a look around. Yesterday we went with Matthew and the kids to the nearby town of Granity, which has a nice beach to run around on, and today Matthew and Jo played squash while i had lunch with Jo's mum at a cute little cafe, and then picked up some bargains at an second hand store - loving those chunky knits right now and there were three up for grabs that i simply had to have.
Sitting in the late afternoon sun or by the fire is perfect for reading, so I'm flying through my trashy Penny Vincenzi novel - Forbidden Places its called, marvellously light - doesn't require me to use my brain in the slightest.
After dinner in the evenings we usually go down to Matthew and Rochelle's to watch a movie, or they might come here. We've watched some early 90s gold, like Bowfinger and Spy Hard, and have a stack to get through yet. For reasons i cannot fathom, the movies I've picked are at the very bottom of the pile. What's wrong with Footloose anyway...?
So there you have it. Tomorrow we might be heading to Nelson for the day, we'll see how we go. Here are some pics:
